Aloud - Terms of Service
Last Updated: 14 September 2026
Effective Date: 14 September 2026
Welcome to Aloud!
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of the Aloud application (“App,” “Service,” or “Aloud”), developed and operated by DRNKN, an independent developer (“we,” “us,” or “our”). By downloading, installing, or using Aloud, you agree to be bound by these Terms.
Please read these Terms carefully before using the App. If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use Aloud.
Your use of the App is also governed by Apple’s standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement (EULA), and these Terms supplement it.
1. Description of Service
Aloud is an augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) app for iPhone and iPad that allows you to:
- Type and be heard, with your text spoken aloud by a system voice or your Personal Voice
- Show your words in big letters when reading is easier than listening
- Prepare a card with one plain statement and five answers, for moments when speaking is not possible
- Open that card quickly, from the Lock Screen, the Action Button, or a shortcut
- Call a contact you chose, from an answer on the card, with a prepared message if the call does not connect
- Hand your phone over, so the other person can type back on the same screen
- Ask for other wording, worked out on your device and only when you ask
- Keep everyday phrases for the things you say most
- Sync your words privately through your own iCloud account, once unlocked and switched on
The App requires no account and no login. Typing, speaking, the card, and your phrases work offline.
2. Eligibility
2.1 Age Requirements
You must be at least 13 years old to use Aloud. If you are between 13 and 18 years old (or the age of majority in your jurisdiction), you may only use Aloud with the consent and supervision of a parent or legal guardian who agrees to be bound by these Terms.
2.2 No Account Required
Aloud does not require account creation. The App uses your device’s local storage, and syncs through Apple’s iCloud service using the Apple ID signed into your device when you unlock the App and turn sync on. By using iCloud features, you agree to Apple’s terms and conditions.
3. Free Features and the One-Time Unlock
3.1 Free
The parts of Aloud you may need most are free, with no time limit and no trial:
- Typing and speaking, with system voices
- Your card, its statement, and its five answers
- Opening the card from the Lock Screen, the Action Button, and shortcuts
- Hand-over, so someone can type back to you
- Asking for other wording, on devices that support it
- Up to three everyday phrases, plus your history
3.2 The Unlock
A single one-time purchase unlocks the rest:
- Unlimited everyday phrases
- iCloud sync across your devices
- Personal Voice, where your device and language support it
It is not a subscription. There is nothing to renew and nothing to cancel.
3.3 Billing
- The purchase is processed through Apple’s App Store
- Payment is charged to your Apple Account at confirmation of purchase
- Prices are set by region and shown to you by Apple in your own currency before you confirm
- The purchase can be restored with Restore Purchases in Settings
3.4 Refunds
Refunds are handled by Apple in accordance with their refund policies. We cannot process refunds directly. To request one, contact Apple Support or visit reportaproblem.apple.com.
3.5 If Something Changes
We may change prices in future. A price change never affects a purchase you have already made. If an unlocked feature ever has to change, the free features listed in §3.1 stay free.
4. Your Content
4.1 You Own What You Write
“Your Content” means your card, your answers, your phrases, your history, your saved contact, and your settings. You retain full ownership. We claim no licence over it.
Your Content is stored on your device, and in your own iCloud account if you turn sync on. It is never transmitted to us. We cannot read it, cannot copy it, and cannot use it for training, for promotion, or for anything else, because we never receive it. There is no server of ours holding it, which means there is nothing of yours for us to sell, lose, or be compelled to produce.
4.2 Deletion Is Yours to Control
- Edit or delete any phrase, answer, or history entry in the App
- Deleting the App removes the local copy; remove any synced copy in Settings → [your name] → iCloud → Manage Account Storage
- There is no server copy, so deletion from your devices and iCloud is final and unrecoverable
4.3 Acceptable Use
You agree NOT to:
- Use the App for any illegal purpose, or to harass or impersonate anyone
- Attempt to circumvent purchases or entitlement checks
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the App
- Resell, redistribute, or commercially exploit the App itself
5. Intellectual Property
5.1 Our Property
The App, including its design, features, code, graphics, and branding (excluding Your Content), is owned by us and protected by intellectual property laws. The Aloud name, logo, and associated branding are ours.
5.2 Voices
Speech is produced by Apple’s speech synthesis on your device. System voices and Personal Voice are Apple technologies, provided under Apple’s terms, and are not ours to license to you.
5.3 Limited Licence
We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the App for personal purposes in accordance with these Terms.
5.4 Feedback
If you send us feedback, suggestions, or ideas about the App, you grant us the right to use them without compensation or attribution.
6. Third-Party Services
6.1 Services We Use
- Apple iCloud / CloudKit: syncing your words to your own iCloud account, when you turn sync on
- Google Firebase Analytics: content-free product analytics you can switch off, as described in our Privacy Policy
- RevenueCat: managing the unlock purchase and restores
- Apple App Store: distribution and payment
6.2 Third-Party Terms
Your use of third-party services is subject to their own terms and privacy policies. We are not responsible for their practices.
7. What Aloud Is Not
7.1 Not a Medical Device
Aloud is a communication tool. It is not a medical device, and it does not diagnose, treat, monitor, or manage any condition. It is not a substitute for assessment or care from a clinician or a speech and language therapist. Nothing in the App is medical advice.
7.2 Not an Emergency Service
The call answer on your card dials a person you chose. It does not contact emergency services, it cannot guarantee that anyone answers, and it depends on your phone, your signal, and your carrier. In an emergency, use your phone’s emergency call feature. Do not rely on Aloud as your only means of getting help.
7.3 Other Wording Is a Suggestion
Rewording is produced on your device by Apple’s on-device models. It can be wrong, awkward, or unavailable. You choose whether to use it, and nothing is spoken unless you ask for it to be spoken.
7.4 Speech Depends on Your Device
Which voices exist, whether Personal Voice is available, and whether on-device rewording can run at all are decided by Apple, your device, your language, and your iOS version. We cannot guarantee any particular voice or feature on any particular device.
7.5 Data Loss
The App saves as you write, and syncs to iCloud when you turn sync on, but this is not a substitute for your own device backups. We are not liable for loss of Your Content, whether caused by device failure, iCloud unavailability, accidental deletion, or a defect in the App.
8. Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability
8.1 “As Is” Service
THE APP IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO:
- Merchantability
- Fitness for a particular purpose
- Non-infringement
- Accuracy or availability of speech, voices, or suggested wording
- Uninterrupted or error-free operation
8.2 Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR:
- Indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages
- Loss of profits, data, or goodwill
- Any damages exceeding the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim
8.3 Jurisdictional Variations
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties or limitation of liability. In such jurisdictions, our liability is limited to the maximum extent permitted by law.
9. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless the developer of Aloud from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) arising from your use of the App, your violation of these Terms, your violation of any third-party rights, or Your Content.
10. Termination
10.1 By You
You may stop using Aloud at any time by deleting the App. Deleting the App removes the local copy; remove any synced copy in your iCloud settings.
10.2 By Us
We may terminate or suspend your access to the App at any time, with or without cause, with or without notice. Reasons may include violation of these Terms.
10.3 Effect of Termination
Upon termination your licence to use the App ends. Provisions that by their nature should survive, such as intellectual property, disclaimers, and limitations of liability, continue to apply. Your words remain yours, on your devices and in your iCloud.
11. Changes to the Service and Terms
11.1 Changes to the App
We may modify, suspend, or discontinue the App or any of its features at any time. Where a change materially affects an unlocked feature, we will say so clearly and in advance where we reasonably can.
11.2 Changes to Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time and will notify you of material changes through the App or by other means. Continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
12. Governing Law and Disputes
12.1 Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of Indonesia, without regard to conflict of law principles.
12.2 Dispute Resolution
Before initiating any legal action, you agree to contact us first and attempt to resolve the dispute informally. Most concerns can be settled quickly by email.
If we cannot resolve a dispute informally, any legal proceedings shall be brought in the courts located in Indonesia, and you consent to the jurisdiction of such courts.
12.3 Class Action Waiver
To the extent permitted by law, you agree to resolve disputes individually and waive the right to participate in class action lawsuits or class-wide arbitration.
13. General Provisions
13.1 Entire Agreement
These Terms, together with Apple’s standard EULA, constitute the entire agreement between you and us regarding the App and supersede any prior agreements.
13.2 Severability
If any provision is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue in effect.
13.3 Waiver
Our failure to enforce any provision does not constitute a waiver of it or of any other provision.
13.4 Assignment
You may not assign or transfer these Terms without our consent. We may assign our rights and obligations without restriction.
