Welcome to Xcalidraw!

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of the Xcalidraw application (“App,” “Service,” or “Xcalidraw”), developed and operated by DRNKN, an independent developer (“we,” “us,” or “our”). By downloading, installing, or using Xcalidraw, you agree to be bound by these Terms.

Please read these Terms carefully before using the App. If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use Xcalidraw.

1. Description of Service

Xcalidraw is a hand-drawn whiteboard and diagramming app for iPad and iPhone that allows you to:

The App works offline. It does not require an account, and there is no login.

2. Eligibility

2.1 Age Requirements

You must be at least 13 years old to use Xcalidraw. If you are between 13 and 18 years old (or the age of majority in your jurisdiction), you may only use Xcalidraw with the consent and supervision of a parent or legal guardian who agrees to be bound by these Terms.

2.2 No Account Required

Xcalidraw does not require account creation. The App uses your device’s local storage and, on Pro with iCloud enabled, Apple’s iCloud service for synchronisation across your devices. By using iCloud features, you agree to Apple’s terms and conditions.

3. Purchases and Payments

3.1 Free Tier

Xcalidraw is free to use, with these limits:

The cap limits creating and importing new files. It never limits access: at the cap, every existing file remains fully openable, editable, exportable, and deletable.

3.2 Xcalidraw Pro

Pro is a one-time purchase, not a subscription. There is nothing to renew and nothing to cancel. Pro unlocks:

Family Sharing is enabled. One purchase covers your Family Sharing group.

3.3 Pricing

Prices are displayed in the App, are set by region, and are shown to you by Apple before you confirm. We may test different price points, and we may change prices in future. A price change never affects a purchase you have already made.

Refunds are handled by Apple in accordance with their refund policies. We cannot process refunds directly. To request one, contact Apple Support or visit reportaproblem.apple.com.

4. Your Content

4.1 You Own What You Draw

“Your Content” means the canvases, drawings, text, imported files, and images you create or place in the App. You retain full ownership. We claim no licence over it.

Your Content is stored on your device, and in your own iCloud account if you have Pro with sync enabled. It is never transmitted to us. We cannot read it, cannot copy it, and cannot use it for training, for promotion, or for anything else, because we never receive it.

4.2 No Lock-In

Canvases are held in the App’s own storage, but they are never trapped there. Settings → Export All Data hands you a zip of every one of them as a standard .excalidraw file, at any time, on the free tier included. We commit to keeping this available. If we ever discontinue the App, everything you exported remains readable by any tool that supports the format.

5.1 Our Property

The App, including its design, features, code, graphics, and branding (excluding Your Content), is owned by us and protected by intellectual property laws. The Xcalidraw name, logo, and associated branding are ours.

5.2 Relationship to Excalidraw

Xcalidraw is an independent app. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, or connected to Excalidraw or its developers.

Xcalidraw supports the .excalidraw file format for interoperability, and draws in a similar hand-drawn visual style. “Excalidraw” is the property of its respective owners, and is used here only to describe file-format compatibility. 5.3 Limited Licence

We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the App for personal or internal business purposes in accordance with these Terms.

5.4 Feedback

If you send us feedback, suggestions, or ideas about the App, you grant us the right to use them without compensation or attribution.

Your use of third-party services is subject to their own terms and privacy policies. We are not responsible for their practices.

7. Feature Expectations and Disclaimers

7.1 Mermaid Import Is Import Only

Xcalidraw imports flowchart and sequence diagrams from Mermaid text. Other Mermaid diagram types are not supported. Import is best-effort: complex or unusual syntax may produce a layout you need to adjust by hand.

There is no Mermaid export. Once a diagram is on the canvas it is a set of hand-drawn elements, and it cannot be converted back into Mermaid text. This is deliberate. Freeform sketches do not map back onto Mermaid’s grammar.

7.2 File Format Compatibility

Xcalidraw aims to import and export .excalidraw faithfully, and preserves fields it does not itself understand so that files round-trip without damage. However, the format evolves independently of this app, and we cannot guarantee that every file from every version or every tool will render identically. Keep your own backups of files that matter.

7.3 Platform Differences

iPad is the full editor. On iPhone, Xcalidraw is deliberately a companion: open a canvas, pan and zoom, edit text, make minor tweaks, and export. It is not a parity drawing surface, and we do not represent it as one.

7.4 Data Loss

The App autosaves continuously and, on Pro, syncs via iCloud. Neither is a substitute for backups. We are not liable for loss of Your Content, whether caused by device failure, sync conflict, accidental deletion, or a defect in the App. Use Export All Data regularly if your work matters to you.

8. Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability

8.3 Jurisdictional Variations

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties or limitation of liability. In such jurisdictions, our liability is limited to the maximum extent permitted by law.

9. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless the developer of Xcalidraw from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) arising from your use of the App, your violation of these Terms, your violation of any third-party rights, or Your Content.

10. Termination

10.1 By You

You may stop using Xcalidraw at any time by deleting the App. Export your work first, because deleting the App removes local data.

10.2 By Us

We may terminate or suspend your access to the App at any time, with or without cause, with or without notice. Reasons may include violation of these Terms.

10.3 Effect of Termination

Upon termination your licence to use the App ends. Provisions that by their nature should survive, such as intellectual property, disclaimers, and limitations of liability, continue to apply. Your files remain yours, in the .excalidraw format, wherever you have exported them.

11. Changes to the Service and Terms

11.1 Changes to the App

We may modify, suspend, or discontinue the App or any of its features at any time. If a feature that Pro paid for is discontinued, we will say so clearly and in advance where we reasonably can.

11.2 Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time and will notify you of material changes through the App or by other means. Continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.

12. Governing Law and Disputes

12.1 Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Indonesia, without regard to conflict of law principles.

12.2 Dispute Resolution

Before initiating any legal action, you agree to contact us first and attempt to resolve the dispute informally. Most concerns can be settled quickly by email.

If we cannot resolve a dispute informally, any legal proceedings shall be brought in the courts located in Indonesia, and you consent to the jurisdiction of such courts.

12.3 Class Action Waiver

To the extent permitted by law, you agree to resolve disputes individually and waive the right to participate in class action lawsuits or class-wide arbitration.

13. General Provisions

13.1 Entire Agreement

These Terms constitute the entire agreement between you and us regarding the App and supersede any prior agreements.

13.2 Severability

If any provision is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue in effect.

13.3 Waiver

Our failure to enforce any provision does not constitute a waiver of it or of any other provision.

13.4 Assignment

You may not assign or transfer these Terms without our consent. We may assign our rights and obligations without restriction.
